SR 597 RESURFACING & CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS
FDOT District Seven – Hillsborough County, Florida
- Sidewalk feasibility study
- Re-grading linear stormwater management facilities
- Synchro analysis for years 2004 and 2015
- Coordination with adjacent projects for continuity in bicycle and pedestrian access
Ingenium Enterprises prepared construction plans and specifications for SR 597 (Dale Mabry Highway) from Van Dyke Road to north of Cheval Boulevard. SR 597 is a major north/south route that connects the south Tampa area to US 41/SR 45 (Pasco County) through Hillsborough County. The highway is functionally classified as an urban principal arterial and an SIS highway facility. It carries up to 42,500 vehicles per day (between 3% and 4% trucks). The primary purpose of this project was to rehabilitate the pavement to extend its service life and add sidewalk or a pedestrian path on both sides of the roadway. A Sidewalk Feasibility Study was used to determine the most practical location for the sidewalk. The sidewalk was placed 15 feet off the shoulder due to the road side ditches being used for stormwater treatment and existing wetlands adjacent to the right of way. This placement allowed the project to mitigate impacts to the stormwater management facilities by regarding the front slopes and avoid a permit modification. Additional services included signing and pavement markings, upgraded existing signals, and coordination with adjacent projects to provide continuous bicycle and pedestrian access along the North Dale Mabry corridor.
